At age of 15 he was living in a foreign land.

Now a teenager trying to understand

Future uncertain and nothing was as planned

For he had a lot to adjust and comprehend.

He swam hard to outlast this survival quicksand.

All day long he trained and prepared to take his stand.

For all the trials his will to win was hard to bend.

But nonetheless he was happy.

Adapt fight and cope, in the blink of an eye 5 years gone by.

At age of 20 he was rolling all on his own.

Becoming an adult the boy had grown.

It’s time to get real with fairyland long gone,

For he had lots to prove and doubts to contain.

Nervousness was a goblin rattling his bone.

All day long he studied and learned in the battle zone.

For all the challenges he managed his best to shine.

But nonetheless he was happy.

Study, equip, and excel; in the blink of an eye 5 years gone by.

At age of 25 he worked years straight in a row,

Entering business hoping for a dazzling show.

His calls never stop and was always on the go,

For the first taste of victory his ego grew.

He would kill for more with a big crossbow.

All day long he plotted and manipulated with his claws,

For all the toil and blood his career thrived but left many in woe.

But nonetheless he was happy.

Work, hustle and grind; in the blink of an eye 5 years gone by.

At age of 30 he had given work all his soul,

Danced with wolves and kept goons on payroll.

His portfolio grew but his heart a black hole,

For he started to ponder life’s true meaning and goal.

He prayed for revelation but heard fuck all.

All day long he wandered while keeping mind in control.

For all he achieved and built, it was time to leave it all,

So he could eventually save his soul.

He set sail to take back what the world stole.

Travel, read and reflect; in the blink of an eye 5 years gone by

At age of 35 he made new plans to expand.

By fate he returned to his motherland,

Refocused for life’s meaning now he understands.

He set hands only on works delightful to command,

Balancing his life because love he had found.

All day long he worked on the wonderland of his own.

For all the art and beauty we have on hand, life can be grand.

There is nothing wrong to be curious once again.

We can have fun even with a pot of sand.

We can play with words like waving a magic wand.

I’m here sharing with you my poem for you are my dear friends.

The boy was once lost but saved himself.

He used to chase blindly with a butcher knife.

Now he savors time and cherish his pretty wife.

There are no little moments in life;

For the little moments are life itself.

19 所有格代名詞

I. 所有格代名詞是用來代替人稱代名詞的所有格及其所修飾的名詞。

Your car is new, but mine is old. 你的車是新的,但我的是老舊的。
mine是主詞代表my car,代替所有格my及其所修飾的car。
*所有格+名詞 = 所有格代名詞

  1. my car = mine
  2. your car = yours
  3. his car = his
  4. her car = hers
  5. its car = its
  6. our car = ours
  7. their car = theirs

例句:
Your backpack is red, but his is black. 妳的背包是紅色的,但他的是黑色的。
His backpack = his

II. of + 所有格代名詞 的用法

  1. Tom is one of my friends. = Tom is a friend of mine.
    Tom是我的一個朋友。
  2. Tom is one of our friends. = Tom is a friend of ours.
  3. Tom is one of your friends. = Tom is a friend of yours. 你的
  4. Tom is one of your friends. = Tom is a friend of yours.你們的
  5. Tom is one of his friends. = Tom is a friend of his.
  6. Tom is one of her friends. = Tom is a friend of hers.
  7. Tom is one of their friends. = Tom is a friend of theirs.

TOEIC SW是挑戰,展現你真實力!

TOEIC SW是甚麼?有多大的價值?

TOEIC SW是許多人不知道的英語能力檢定,知道的也多半不去考。SW代表Speaking及Writing,多益跟全民英檢最大的不同就是全民英檢GEPT必須初試聽讀及複試說寫都達到標準才有通過證書,但是多益聽讀以及多益SW沒有通過不通過的問題,反正有考就有分數證明,這導致多數多益考生不參加說寫考試(反正不會不通過),正好避開弱項。

以生意角度來看多益這招真是高明,不像全民英檢考生可能要尷尬地說「我沒通過」,多益考生只有分數證明,無論考幾分都沒有不通過的問題。難怪近幾年來愈來愈多人考多益(但不考多益SW說寫),愈來愈少人考全民英檢。

換個角度看,多益SW才比較接近真正的英語能力,尤其是考試模式極具挑戰,相信需要員工具備英語能力的企業主也知道。所以TOEIC SW高分是求職升遷利器!即使多益聽讀金色證書的人未必能考到多益SW140分以上。畢竟聽讀比較容易進行機械化訓練拿高分,但說寫則不然,多益SW可不像參加面試是可以預測要講些甚麼,多益SW真的不簡單。

以下是多益官方2012台灣1000大企業員工英語能力調查報告;可知有三分之一的企業機構以英語能力作為招募員工標準。

下圖即是企業對於國際人才的期待值調查,可知道企業機構對於英語能力的期待就是說寫溝通能力,尤其公開演說能力更是立即凸顯個人優勢。

所以英語,或者國際語,的溝通能力在職業生涯有其必要性。其實在個人生活層面也有其優勢,出國旅遊洽公或網路搜尋資訊都派得上用場。

TOEIC SW到底考些甚麼?挑戰性在哪裡?

我個人是英語演說教練,是KTC (高雄國際英語演講會)會員,最近剛完成羚羊、獅子、父親的英語演說,但是我沒有拿到TOEIC SW滿分🙂。我們來看看考試內容如何有挑戰性。

TOEIC SW每項考試的滿分是200:

  1. 口說題型包含(1)朗讀45秒內完成;(2)描述照片內容45秒;(3)即時回答問題兩大題六次回答15~30秒;(4)依據提供資訊提出解決方案60秒;(5)陳述意見60秒。
  2. 寫作則是包含(1)描述照片8分鐘;(2)回覆書面要求20分鐘;(3)陳述意見30分鐘。
  3. 挑戰就在於有時間限制以及立即回答問題。請至多益官網閱讀更詳細考試內容。想進行模擬測驗可至超凡遠距官網的各項考題

誰該去考?

建議TOEIC成績 700以上的學習者才去應考,因為口語與寫作測驗很需要大量單字,而且當中有很多題型需要一定程度的閱讀與聽力,加上考試很燒錢,所以一旦決定去考,就要充分準備,至少說寫各拿個160。否則考出來的成績不具有說服力,若只是當作經驗,那就是很貴的經驗。下表是多益機構的調查,多益聽讀滿分只能在多益SW得到170,顯見說寫對英語做為國際語的學習者的挑戰是在說寫。超凡遠距希望應徵工作時拿出金色證書的朋友可別在公開演說時表現落差太大。

To是介係詞還是不定詞😔

To的兩個角色常常困惑學習者,偏偏國高中又超愛考這種學習者容易混亂的文法,今天我們就來把to的兩個角色弄清楚。

  1. I go to school every day.
    to是介係詞,介係詞後面接的是名詞,school是名詞。
  2. I want to go to school.
    有兩個to,第一個to後面接的是動詞go,(to + V.原形)是不定詞。
    第二個to則如例句一所說明(to+名詞)是介係詞片語。

所以當我們說I am on my way to school. to是介係詞,所以後面接名詞。聽起來很簡單,但是學校考試的內容為什麼困惑呢?看看下面幾個句子就明白為什麼困惑了。

  1. 既然我們可以說:I am on my way to school.我在通往學校的路上。
  2. 我們當然也可以說:I am on my way to a singer.我在通往歌手的路上。
  3. 那可不可以說:I am on my way to become a singer.我在通往成為歌手的路上。
    看起來沒錯,但是卻錯了。因為從第一句我們知道to是介係詞,所以後面要接名詞,但是become是動詞,所以要變成名詞才是正確文法。
  4. I am on my way to becoming a singer. 才是正確句子。

我們再來看看幾個正確及錯誤的句子

  1. ⭕Hard work is the key to success.(努力是成功的關鍵。) to為介係詞
    ❌Hard work is the key to be successful.
    ⭕Hard work is the key to being successful.
  2. ⭕There is no shortcut to the top.(到頂端沒有捷徑。) to為介係詞
    ❌There is no shortcut to stand at the top.
    ⭕There is no shortcut to standing at the top.
  3. ⭕I am used to you every Monday.(每星期一,我已經習慣有你。) to為介係詞
    ❌I am used to see Mary every Monday.
    ⭕I am used to seeing Mary every Monday.
  4. ⭕My dad used to smoke, but he has quit it.(我爸以前抽菸,但他已經戒掉。)
    (to smoke)為不定詞。
    ❌My dad used to smoking, but he has quit it.
    ⭕My dad is used to smoking.(我爸已經習慣於抽菸了。)
    used to+動詞表達過去習慣,be used to+名詞表達習慣於某事物。

注意分辨下面兩個正確句子涵義上的不同,因為to的角色不同,所以意思不同。

  1. ⭕Computers are used to help people work.電腦被用來幫人們工作。
  2. ⭕Computers are used to helping people work.電腦習慣於幫人們工作。

注意:從句子的結構SVOPA也能判斷介係詞或不定詞。不定詞(to+V)是名詞用途,所以是在句子中的主詞或受詞的位置,介係詞片語(to+N)則是位於名詞或動詞的前後方。

17 感官動詞及使役動詞

感官動詞依語意可接Ving正在發生;V規律發生;PP…被動

see/ look at/ hear/ listen to/ feel/ smell/ observe/ watch/ notice

  1. I saw my friend running down the street. (表達當時正在進行的動作。)
  2. I saw my friend run down the street.
  3. When I wake up in the morning, I hear birds sing in the trees every day.
  4. John didn’t see the wallet taken by anyone.
    = John didn’t see anyone taking the wallet.
  5. May noticed her computer used by someone.

使役動詞有三個:make/ have/ get to

make, have, get to的主動語態。

  1. I made my brother carry my book bag. (我弟沒選擇,我要他幫我背書包。)
  2. I had my brother carry my book bag. (我弟幫我背書包,因為我要求他。)
  3. I got my brother to carry my book bag. (我成功地說服我弟幫我背書包。)

make, have, get to的被動語態。

  1. I had the mechanic repair the car. (主動)
    = I had the car repaired (by the mechanic.) (被動)
  2. Lee made her son clean his room. (主動)
    = Lee made his room cleaned (by her son.) (被動)
  3. May got her brother to do her homework. (主動)
    = May got her homework done (by her brother.) (被動)

    let, help: 後接動詞原形

    由於let與上方使役動詞make在中文都被翻譯成「讓…」,所以意義及使用上常造成錯誤。

    1. My father lets me drive his car.我爸讓我開他的車。 (這表示我很想開爸爸的車。)
    2. My brother helped me (to) wash my car.

    說明:let及help嚴格來說不算是使「役」動詞,反而是使「開心」動詞,但用法與使役動詞類似。

    16 表達時間的幾種方式

    表達時間有幾種不同的方式,英語人士最常使用的是第一項的直接表達,但學校的教學系統會比較重視其他稍為困難些的表達模式,考試也是以這些為主。

    (1) 直接表達:It is 12:10. (It is twelve-ten.)

    (2) 使用介係詞past (經過)或after (…之後):用於時間的分鐘在30分前。例句:

    It’s 07:10. = It’s ten past seven. = It’s ten after seven.

    (3) 使用介係詞to (到達)或before (…之前):用於30分鐘後。例句:

    It’s 06:50. = It’s ten to seven. = It’s ten before seven.

    (4) 使用名詞quarter (1/4 = 15分鐘):用於15分鐘或45分鐘。例句:

    It’s 09:15. = It’s a quarter after 9.
    It’s 09:45. = It’s a quarter to 10.

    (5) 使用名詞half (1/2 = 30分鐘):用於30分鐘。

    It’s 11:30. = It’s half past 11.
    It’s 11:30. = It’s half before 12.
