I thought my family vacation to Sun Moon Lake was going to be boring, but it’s turned out to be a fantastic trip. 第一段:凸顯家庭背景及人格特質對於申請科系或職位的關聯性。

這一段通常做個人及家庭的基本描述,簡潔說明個人成長環境、家庭成員、人格特質等等。常常出現的錯誤就是做隨手寫日記般的長篇大論,例如把家庭成員的個人背景也加進來寫。家庭背景不要過度描述,如果家人職業或家庭教育對於所申請系所或專業職位有緊密關聯或特殊影響,則做深入些描述,呈現這個關聯性。

School life is very valuable to me.  Though I am not a top student in terms of school grades, I am good at many fields and consider myself a devoted and enthusiastic learner.  Among the school subjects, I love science best and read English science report on a daily basis. As a result, I also do pretty well in English learning.  I participated in several English speech and composition contests and won very some prizes. Also, I have been active in school camps, including those held by universities, and different kinds of workshops.  I believe that extracurricular activities provide valuable opportunities for me to accumulate valuable experiences and broaden my horizons.  I learn important intrapersonal and interpersonal skills from these special activities.

My college life is colorful and rewarding. Though I am not a top student in terms of my academic performance, I am good at a certain subjects and skilled at a sport. When we had a marathon race, we had to get up early while most other teenagers were still wrapped in their warm bed. The determination to get out of bed is the first thing I learn from marathon. Patience is the second thing I learn from marathon because it takes a long time to complete a marathon race, without patience I may get exhausted half way.

Playing basketball and jogging long-distance have been my favorite recreational activities.

英語教練訂正作業指導

1. 檔名確實呈現以利管理

學員作業檔以及英語教練訂正檔都要呈現正確檔名。學員作業檔名就在作業文本頁面的左上角,例如E2STC1-1。教練訂正檔名是(作業檔名+空格+教練代號+R),例如E2STC1-1 SR,這樣可以清楚地在資料夾裡檢視訓練課程的每一項作業已經完成及訂正完成檔名前後同時呈現。

2. 錄音作業訂正說明

(1) 工具:

英語教練訂正作業時應該要使用電腦、麥克風及耳機,提升訂正聲音品質,可自行選用自己擅長使用的工具及APP完成訂正作業,以下為超凡遠距建議使用的APP:

  • 訂正錄音作業需使用聲音編輯軟體,建議採用Lexis Audio Editor付費版,或Audacity
  • (a) Lexis Audio Editor操作較迅速,免費版即可以操作wav、flac、m4a、aac、wma格式,但若要輸出MP3檔,必須用付費版,價格約NT$100。請在Windows的APP Store付費下載
  • (b) Audacity完全免費(點此網頁選擇作業系統下載),功能比Lexis Audio Editor強大許多,若只是訂正作業,操作上稍微多一兩道手續,但也不難克服。

(2) STC作業:

本作業主要幫助學員提升閱讀理解力,因為是輸出中文,所以英語教練務必確定學員翻譯正確,措辭合乎邏輯,要求的標準必須高,但不必字字計較,要以整體邏輯合理為重。在訂正前,英語教練務必確認能夠完全理解作業內容。必要時可以參考超凡遠距參考檔。英語教練要提醒學員的常見錯誤:

  • 按照英文句型結構翻譯,而不是按照中文句型結構翻譯,否則會導致中文輸出內容有時候令人難以聽懂。
  • 學員在翻譯時常常未看完整句就翻譯,導致語意不通順,因為英文句子中出現在句子後面的意義元素,通常要在中文句子的前面就要呈現。
  • 學員常常沒有注意翻譯中的句子與前方句子的關係,以至於句意不連貫,或用詞不一致。要提醒學員注重整體感,才能有流暢翻譯。

(3) STE作業:

本作業主要幫助學員提升英語口說能力,由於輸出的是英文,這對大多數的學生來講是一個比較大的挑戰,錯誤較多,因此不需要有錯誤就訂正, 但是必須要把握幾個重點,每項作業挑出3~5個重點錯誤提供建議即可。

  • 基礎學員要著重咬字發音的完整、基本時態觀念,尤其不規則動詞過去式的提醒、正確句型結構提醒,也就是主詞、動詞、受詞、介詞、片語副詞,務必熟練,學習子句的運用,但是不必求精準。
  • 初級學員要注重子句的運用,尤其形容詞子句對於口說能力的提升有非常大的幫助,一定要讓學員具備形容詞子句的概念,但是不必精細。幫助學員了解比較長的中文句子不一定要在一個英文句子裡面納入所有的意義元素,可以利用兩個中文短句子來完成。
  • 中級學員要著重用字是否正確,提醒學員不需要因為英文字典裡面的中文定義而有錯誤的判斷。造句的時候,不用執著於用很深奧的字,越簡單越好。以流暢、正確為優先原則。
  • 中級以上學員需盡可能把中文句子當中所有的意義元素包含到英文句子當中,整個作業必須要以流暢、合邏輯、能夠被聽眾聽懂為優先原則。結構愈簡潔愈好。

(3) CI逐步口譯:

本作業是聽跟說的雙重訓練,作業目的在於提升學員聽力及口說能力。訂正重點在於提醒學員是否將聽進來的資訊正確且合乎邏輯的說出去,不必100%重新輸出,但是必須至少60%以自己的方式,合乎邏輯的輸出,且聽眾能夠聽懂。提醒重點如下:

  • 學員不可把聽到的聲音逐字逐句地記錄下來,然後用朗讀來錄音,這樣會變成複製性輸出,而不是發自內心的創造。學員應該練習邊聽邊做筆記,然後依據筆記的內容來做輸出。所以輸出內容以簡單、流暢、合邏輯、掌控重點為優先。
  • 學員的文法訂正為次要,但必須提醒學員善用形容詞子句、名詞子句、及副詞子句做正確表達。但是若是不用子句也能正確表達是可以接受的。
  • 學員解讀錯誤出現,英語教練必須加以訂正,觀察是否訓練層級太高。可以提醒學員做完筆記之後,先用中文輸出一次,檢視自己中文輸出是否合乎邏輯,若是合乎邏輯,再用英文輸出。

3. WT寫作作業訂正說明

寫作WT及TW的目的在於提升學員使用文法、單字、片語的精準度,英語教練訂正的時候 盡可能嚴格,以幫助學員在最短的時間之內建立使用單字文法的正確觀念,以及句型結構的精準度。
寫作作業WT筆譯或TW主題寫作的訂正,通常以兩種方式來進行:

  • 第一種就是將學員的作業列印出來,然後以手寫的方式訂正,訂正完之後拍照,然後再上傳到學員的雲端資料夾。
  • 第二種方式就是利用電腦以及手寫板作業,這種作業方式可以在電腦上使用Windows 10小畫家,或另行下載Smooth Draw,將學員WT或TW作業圖檔在小畫家或Smooth draw開啟,然後以電子筆在手寫板做訂正。

英語教練可以再利用輔助APP加快作業速度。利用Google的語音辨識系統,使用麥克風將大量文字訂正內容先用語音辨識系統取得文字稿,再複製貼到小畫家或Smooth draw上。

財經科技專業訓練

ESP全文英語說寫輸出訓練就是<專業文章聽說讀寫的訓練>,是練習<連續兩分鐘以上的專業資訊分享>。ESP是English for Specific Purpose的縮寫,也就是以特定領域進行全文輸入輸出訓練,目的是強化個人專業領域的競爭力。學習者可針對財經或科技進行全文輸入輸出訓練。每次訓練可以幫助學員提升三種能力(1)閱讀理解、(2)專業知識、(3)英語競爭力。

以下是一個政治大學大二學員進行財經英文摘要的實例。學員先閱讀下列文章

Climbing the Income Ladder Takes Generations, Depending on Where You Live

  1. Since the 1990s, social mobility in the world’s most developed countries has stalled. The low-income is restraining people’s opportunity to well-being. How should countries make economic growth more inclusive?
  2. Most of us, especially in developed nations, expect to grow up to earn more than our parents. But as a new in-depth report by the *OECD shows, this is becoming less likely. In fact, things have been trending this way for decades.
  3. Families and communities in many countries are increasingly trapped on the bottom rungs of the social ladder. Children born into low-income families have less chance of moving up in the world. Meanwhile, those at the top of the income ladder are holding on to their wealth.
  4. One way of understanding income mobility is to look at how long it would take someone from a poor family to earn the average income in their home country. The answer varies dramatically depending on where that person lives.
  5. At the current rate of income mobility in Colombia, for example, it would take 11 generations for someone born into a low-income family to earn an average wage. But in Denmark it would only take two generations, while the average rate is 4.5 generations.
  6. Why is Social Mobility important? The lack of social mobility can test the resilience of a society – people can feel trapped in their low income status and worry about the lack of opportunities for their children to progress. This has an impact on social cohesion, as well as on economics and politics.
  7. But that’s not all. If people are unable to progress in their career or improve their lifestyle, much potential talent remains underdeveloped. In addition, knowing that you have the opportunity to improve your family living situation has a positive influence on life satisfaction and well-being.
  8. In 2018, the World Economic Forum unveiled the *Inclusive Development Index (IDI). The IDI takes measuring income, employment opportunity, economic security and quality of life into account, instead of looking at countries’ performance from a purely economic standpoint.
  9. Northern European countries are at the top of the index, with Norway, Iceland, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Denmark taking the first five places.

Ice Cream

  1. Ice cream is a favorite all over the world. In Japan, it is made with a hard cookie on the outside like a cone. In Italy and France, ice cream usually contains nuts and fruit. Eskimos like it very much, so they use airplanes to fly it to them. Maybe Americans eat the most ice-cream all over the world.
  2. Every year Americans eat over seven hundred million gallons of ice cream. There are more than two hundred flavors for them to choose from. Two very popular flavors are strawberry and chocolate.
  3. People have been eating ice cream for centuries. Kings and queens in European countries and American presidents loved to eat ice cream. It is a favorite of adults and children!

  2. 當Kelly Stewart問老師她是否能帶一台直升機來學校,她的老師同意了。老師並不知道她要帶的是一台真的直升機!
  3. Kelly的爸爸是飛行員,他在軍隊中飛直升機。當一架巨大的直升機在學校操場降落時,每個人都大吃一驚。每個學童看著直升機,而且聽著Kelly還有她的爸爸解釋說明,學生們都很感興趣,每個人都說這是他們在課堂中經歷過最棒的說故事時間。

  1. Kiyo Tanaka skillfully steers her wheelchair between the flower beds as she gardens outdoors. Gardening is one of her favorite year-round activities.
  2. Believe it or not, thirteen-year-old Kiyo also successfully grows plants indoors without soil. She fills plastic containers with a special solution for nourishing plants. She uses a piece of screen to support each plant in a container, which allows the roots to dangle into the solution so that half of the root system is covered1. Every few weeks Kiyo pours out the old solution, flushes the container with clear water, and then pours in fresh solution, which she buys at a gardening center.
  3. With this kind of indoor gardening, Kiyo doesn’t have to worry about outdoor garden pests, poor soil, or bad weather. She keeps the plants on shelves where they can get good sunlight and where she can reach them easily. Her indoor plants are a living evidence to the good care she gives them.

  2. 後來,這些科學家在給狗一些食物吃之前先讓狗狗看見某一種特定的顏色。幾天後,當狗看到這種顏色,牠們就做好吃東西的準備。然後科學家又給狗看不同的顏色,而這些狗又準備好了要吃東西。狗是無法區分不同顏色的。

  1. 1888年美國西部的大暴風雪造成超過500受害者,但也有英雄。其中最有名的是兩位年輕的女教師,她們的勇氣和冷靜頭腦救了學生生命。
  2. 在1月12日那天,在校園玩耍的兒童看到了一些看起來像是「大棉球」的東西向他們滾過去。當時老師己經響起上課的鈴噹。當最後一個學童進到教室裡後,強風幾乎把校舍吹倒。這時溫度開始下降,老師用溫暖衣物把孩子包起來。在後來的12小時內,溫度下降了50度!有的孩子很想回家,但老師把他們留在教室到隔天早上。
  3. 在附近的另一個小鎮,有一位老師和她的學生也在學校度過了一夜。他們砍書桌和椅子,然後放在一起燃燒,這樣才能保暖。當隔天早上暴風雪沉寂下來,那位老師帶著孩子們走到附近一個安全的建築物。
